Key Details & Sizes: 

  • The Jeep Wrangler TJ (1997–2006) door hinge bolts require a T-40 Torx bit and feature a 5/16"-18 thread size. Because Jeep painted right over these bolts at the factory and applied strong thread locker (Loctite), removing them is notoriously difficult and highly prone to stripping 

  • Do not use a standard ratchet or a high-powered pneumatic impact gun, as you will instantly strip the soft factory metal.

    • Handheld Impact Screwdriver: This tool is essential. You strike the end of it with a heavy hammer, which simultaneously shocks the bolt and forces it to rotate a fraction of a turn. This keeps the bit firmly pressed inside the Torx head so it cannot slip out.
